WasH
day is a sacred ritual between you and your hair. It’s a day where you carve out intentional time — either with yourself or your stylist to reconnect with your kinks, locs and coils and nurture it with your thoughtfully curated regimen of products, tools and protective styling techniques.

When it comes to your hair care journey, there is SO much to learn and unlearn about — like how to protect and style your hair, what the best products and tools to use are, and which ones are free of toxic chemicals linked to health concerns that disproportionately impact Black women like breast and ovarian cancer and uterine fibroids.

But it doesn’t stop at hair. Just like your wash day routine is about more than products and styling, your reproductive health is about more than annual checkups. From understanding fertility options to learning about egg freezing, it’s about making informed choices now that support your future self.

It can feel overwhelming trying to go about this on your own, especially when you’re not sure where to start, who to go to for the answers, or what support you may need. But no worries – we got you!

Learning how to care for your hair and body doesn’t always have to happen from the latest viral video, a tab on your browser, or your local beauty supply store – it can happen at the salon – over cocktails, conversations, and celebration!

This is a ticketed and online registration-only in-person event for Black women, femmes and non-binary folks age 21+— if this is you please come through— if it is not, see you soon at our next event! This is a spoken English language event focusing on people with uteruses and vaginas. We hope to support language diversity and justice in our future events.

  • Learn how your haircare and reproductive healthcare journey can be supported by our wellness and healthcare homegirls: a Black cosmetologist, a Reproductive Endocrinologist and OB/GYN and Environmental Health Scientist.

Marissa Chan
Marissa Chan

Marissa Chan is an Afro-Caribbean and Chinese PhD student in Population Health Sciences within the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research interests and work experience surround environmental justice and beauty justice, specifically focusing on the intersection of place-based environmental hazards and product-based exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in personal care products.

Through her work, Marissa aims to highlight the presence of EDCs in personal care products to a variety of stakeholders, support community voices and knowledge in environmental and beauty justice efforts, and work towards developing community-driven interventions and solutions. Prior to entering the doctoral program, she obtained an MS from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Chantae Sullivan-Pyke
Dr. Chantae Sullivan-Pyke

Dr. Chantae Sullivan-Pyke is a double board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and OB/GYN who brings a thoughtful and compassionate approach to fertility care. She is the Site Director of Spring Fertility Long Island and is passionate about helping patients navigate complex fertility decisions with clarity and confidence.

Dr. Sullivan-Pyke completed her Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Pennsylvania, her residency in OB/GYN at Columbia University, and earned her medical degree from Yale University. She has demonstrated excellence as a fertility specialist, including her work at Stony Brook Medicine before joining Spring Fertility.

Her clinical focus includes IVF, fertility preservation, and oncofertility, and she is particularly dedicated to creating supportive, empowering patient experiences. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Sullivan-Pyke is an active researcher in reproductive medicine, with publications on embryo development, miscarriage diagnostics, and fertility preservation techniques. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, earning recognition for her contributions to the field.

At Spring Fertility, Dr. Sullivan-Pyke continues her commitment to expanding access to high-quality, compassionate fertility care, blending expertise with empathy to ensure her patients feel informed and supported every step of the way.

SOFT salon was envisioned by entrepreneur and cosmetologist Paris Severino in 2017. After noticing that the blow-dry salon concept neglected the unique needs of women with textured hair, Paris dedicated herself to changing this reality, centering women with textured hair in her business model.

Paps on Tap is an incredible experience that allows you to network and learn from other Black women and dive into otherwise “taboo” topics. Kimbritive is breaking down walls and opening up the conversation so that we all can be better informed!

I attended by myself, so the conversation starters were so helpful in breaking the ice, making me more comfortable, and introducing me to the ladies I sat next to. The event was well put together.
